Now Trending: Liquid Brow Lifts

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is one of the most popular procedures performed by Dr. Jean-Paul Azzi at The Palm Beach Center for Facial Plastic & Laser Surgery, but in recent years, facial plastic surgeons have come to recognize the growing appeal of the brow lift.

Let’s start by saying that the surgical brow lift has come a long way. Gone are the days when people would have to worry about the “deer in the headlights” look (assuming you have a qualified specialist in facial plastic surgery). Dr. Azzi’s brow lift patients can expect a natural looking, long lasting result with expert placement of the brow, as well as smoother lines across the forehead and in between the eyes.

While the surgical brow lift remains among the top performed procedures by Dr. Azzi, the “chemical brow lift” or "liquid brow lift" is rapidly growing in popularity. There are a couple of reasons for this: the cost is lower and there is no downtime. It is frequently performed on younger patients who are active and don’t have time for a convalescent period.

A chemical brow lift elevates the brows by injecting a neuromodulator, like Botox®, into precise muscles that work to raise and lower the eyebrows. Neuromodulators relax the orbicularis oculi, corrugator, and procerus muscles that pull the eyebrow downward. The muscles that lift the brow up, such as the lateral frontalis, can then function unrestricted. The desired effects can last up to six months.

As with any procedure, Dr. Azzi always let his patients know what to expect. The disadvantage of a liquid eyebrow lift is that the results are temporary and are limited in how much the brow can be lifted, while a surgical brow lift procedure can lift the eyebrows up to a centimeter or more.

Sometimes chemical brow lifts are combined with surgical procedures such as blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) or other nonsurgical procedures like laser peels that smooth and tighten the forehead. Dr. Jean-Paul Azzi commented, “The eyelid, forehead and brow are all connected, and someone seeking a more youthful appearance might be disappointed if they opt to only have their eyelids treated and nothing else—especially if their brow is covering their eyelids.”
