Hello, BOTOX®. Goodbye, Wrinkles.

BOTOX®, a preventative method used to reduce the risk of wrinkles, is the most popular cosmetic procedure of all time. The notion of lifting the brows and noticeably improving the appearance of wrinkles, specifically on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes, is very appealing to men and women in their 20s and beyond.

Dr. Azzi is an expert in the use of BOTOX®, and other neuromodulators like Dysport and Xeomin that help relax specific muscles in the face in order to decrease lines and in some cases create a “chemical brow lift.” He treats patients with BOTOX® on a daily basis and frequently receives the same questions from patients. Below, Dr. Azzi has answered some of the most commonly asked questions about BOTOX®.

How does BOTOX® work?

BOTOX®, Xeomin and Dysport are all neuromodulators. They target the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet and other wrinkles by temporarily preventing the movement of facial muscles. This reduction in muscle activity subsequently prevents the creation of lines between and around the eyes and on the forehead. If done properly, a brow lift can also be achieved simultaneously.

What's the best age to start using BOTOX®?

Ideally, neuromodulator treatments are performed as a preventative measure and not as treatment. If a patient starts BOTOX® treatments in their 20s or 30s, they can effectively avoid the creation of wrinkles.

Is it too early for patients to start BOTOX® treatments in their early or mid twenties?

As a general rule, it is not too young. In fact, if it is maintained from such a young age, it will prevent wrinkles from appearing and keep the patient's face young.

What happens when the BOTOX® wears off?

The muscle movement simply starts again causing the lines to re-appear.

Will BOTOX® make me look frozen and fake?

Neuromodulators like Xeomin, Dysport and BOTOX® are not pills that make the face look rejuvenated. It’s important to seek out a trained, medical expert since injecting BOTOX® is a technique-sensitive treatment. A skilled injector will never make you look frozen or fake, and you should not lose the ability to show expression. Always trust your face to a specialist like a facial plastic surgeon.

How much does it cost to get BOTOX®?

The cost varies by provider. Be suspicious if the cost is very low at a spa or somewhere where you don't know the doctor. These products are expensive to buy in the United States and so many many people order discount products from overseas. Unlike many spas and offices, I do not use discounted products imported from Mexico, Canada or any other countries, and I generally open products right in front of my patients.

What is the recovery time after treatment?

You can resume your regular daily activities right after your treatment. Your specialist will give you specific aftercare instructions.

Dr. Azzi often tells his patients, “If you have BOTOX® done properly, you will never want to go without it again!”
