Facelift 101: What to Expect

As we age, our face surrenders to the effects of gravity and succumbs to texture changes and volume loss. A facelift can help tailor the face to a new, more youthful appearance.

Choosing a Doctor

When it comes to choosing a doctor, your best bet is a facial plastic surgeon, a plastic/cosmetic surgeon who exclusively specializes in procedures of the face, nose and neck. Dr. Azzi is a top choice thanks to his facial expertise, experience and accolades. He looks at the face as a whole and makes recommendations based on how different parts of your face are aging.

Located in South Florida but trained at the finest institutions in New York City, Dr. Azzi is skilled in the latest cutting edge techniques and is known for his natural, beautiful and long lasting results. He is an expert at many types of facelifts, ranging from deep-plane and sub-SMAS facelifts to endoscopic mid-facelifts. Each method of facelifting targets a distinct area of the face with varying degrees of intensity. Because of his advanced skill level, Dr. Azzi’s exceptional facelifting techniques have been published in American and European facial plastic surgery journals.

At your consultation, Dr. Azzi will listen to your concerns and will explain which procedure would best fit your individual situation. He will walk you through the entire process until you’re completely comfortable and ready to move forward.

What’s the Next Step?

The procedure itself comes next. Dr. Azzi’s facelifts are performed in the office, while the patient is awake. The procedure is painless and generally takes two to three hours.

After the Facelift Procedure:

Patients can go home right after the in office procedure. Incisions are hidden in natural creases but will require some basic care for 4-6 days. There are no drains and typically the dressing is just an Ace wrap around the chin. Ice packs can be used for the first 48 hours to minimize swelling, and patients are encouraged sleep with their head elevated on 2-3 pillows. Dr. Azzi typically sees his patients the next morning to check how they are doing and answer any questions. Your doctor will remove your sutures during separate visits about 5-7 days after your facelift.

Limit any activity during the first week after your facelift surgery. Be sure to avoid bending, lifting pulling, pushing or straining. Light walking around the house the day of/day after surgery is encouraged to prevent blood clots. Exercise is on an individual basis, but typically people can return to their normal activities by two weeks post-procedure.
