Am I a Good Facelift Candidate?

There comes a point when we look in the mirror and see something different. Maybe there are some extra lines or some droopiness you never noticed before. While facelifts are certainly designed to reduce visible signs of aging like wrinkles, sagging skin, and jowls, you want to make sure you’re a good candidate. If you’re wondering if a facelift is right for you, consider the following…

  1. Physical Health: A facelift is a surgical procedure. With that said, you need to consider your health and any pre-existing medical conditions. Healing time can vary based on the facelifting procedure that you choose, so make sure you talk your facial plastic surgeon about realistic downtime. Diabetes, high blood pressure and bleeding disorders should be taken into consideration when determining if you are a good candidate for this type of surgery. Fortunately, Dr. Jean-Paul Azzi does not use general anesthesia, so those risks are eliminated.

  2. Overall Skin Condition: Plastic surgeons will advise that the best candidates for facelifts are the ones whose skin has retained some flexibility and elasticity. The skin should have some suppleness and bounce back to a certain degree when pinched. Cigarette smokers are often times not the best candidates for facelifts because of the damage nicotine does to the skin. Over exposure to sun also has negative effects.

  3. Bone Structure: Facelifts address signs of aging, but cannot fix bone structure. For example, if a client is unhappy with their chin, a facelift will not remedy this type of dissatisfaction. It is important to understand the results you’re really trying to achieve in order to choose the right procedure. If you are unhappy with your bone structure, there are a variety of other procedures that Dr. Jean-Paul Azzi can perform, such as chin augmentation, cheek implants, rhinoplasty, and more!

  4. Age: There isn’t an age that dictates whether someone is a good candidate for a facelift, but your skin’s condition and “genetic age” help determine if this is the correct procedure to follow through with. Typically, facelift clients fall between the ages of 40 and 70.
