Seeing a double chin in the mirror might be indicative of some sort of weight gain, but a one to one relationship does not always exist here.
There are different types of chin issues. In many cases, a sagging chin/neck is a sign of aging – as we grow older, the skin begins to lose elasticity and the skin beneath the chin can begin to sag.
A double chin can be a sign of gaining weight as as well as a sign of aging. Additionally, genetics can also play a role in the appearance of a double chin.
Depending on your individual chin/neck, Dr. Azzi may recommend submental liposuction or a neck lift.
SUBMENTAL LIPOSUCTION OR NECKLIFT
Submental liposuction is one of the most straightforward procedures, as it targets the fat under the patient’s chin area. The minimally invasive procedure requires a few tiny incisions that allow the doctor to sculpt the chin/jawline.
NECK LIFT
By eliminating fat deposits, improving your jawline, tightening the tissues and smoothing neck bands (wrinkles and lines), a neck lift by Dr. Azzi can shave 10 years or more off of your appearance, leaving you looking refreshed and youthful. Dr. Azzi regularly performs neck lifts in combination with other procedures, like facelifts, brow lifts, and eyelid surgery.
And while a cosmetic procedure can certainly help get rid of this imperfection, it’s not the only remedy. If you’re not ready for a surgical procedure, you can try the following:
CHIN MASKS
Since a double chin can mean skin elasticity is decreasing, there are many facemasks and chin masks available that can help tighten this area. Masks that contain glycerin, coffee and green tea often help tighten the skin.
NECK EXERCISES
There is very little scientific evidence or research conducted on the impact of these exercises, but these do target the muscles of the neck and face. To warm up the neck before any exercise, it is recommended to gently rotate the head forward and down, and then back and up using a clockwise motion. Reverse the direction after a handful of rotations.
Exercises like the Ball Squeeze, where a squishy ball is placed under the chin has become one of the most wildly known chin exercises. Using the chin to push down against the ball in a steady firm motion in sets of ten to thirty targets the trouble area directly.
Again, there is very little scientific support when it comes to the impact of these exercises.
