Jawline Slimming

The face is full of angles and the slightest change in millimeter could make all the difference. The angles and lines of the jaw, in particular, can really influence how feminine or masculine a face appears.

The masseters are muscles on either side of the face. They sit along the edge of the jawbone and contribute to how the face is shaped. A strong, square jawline is often considered a desirable feature on a man’s face, however, women usually consider it less attractive and not very feminine.

For those who feel their jawline is too wide, tensed or squared-off, there is a very non-invasive treatment that could help sharpen and slim the area.

The goal of jawline slimming or masseter reduction, is to reduce disproportionate jawlines by weakening the masseter muscles with injectables, thus creating a more V-shaped face. Botox, or other neuromodulators like Dysport, Xeomin or Jeuveau (Newtox), are typically used for this treatment.

Botox is actually used to reduce the size of masseter muscle. The injectable prevents muscle contraction which will cause the muscle to shrink. Once the muscle ceases to grow, muscle atrophy will begin, and its prominence will weaken.

While many people are able to achieve their desired result with only one treatment, double board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Doctor Jean-Paul Azzi, cautions that it may take more than one session to achieve the subtle end result.

A jawline slimming treatment does not impact anything else concerning the mouth – biting and chewing are completely unimpacted.

There is no downtime after the treatment and you can return to your normal activities right away. Patients can expect their masseter muscles to begin relaxing with a week or two of treatment, with full results around 2-3 weeks.

Results are subtle and you will never look like you’ve “had work done.” In fact, most people probably won’t even be able to put their finger on what you had done -- your appearance will just be more feminine and attractive.
