PREjuvenation vs REjuvenation

The terms rejuvenation and prejuvenation are thrown around a lot when discussing appearance. The two terms, which may sound and look similar, actually hold two very different meanings.

Think of prejuvenation as precautionary measures – rather than reacting to signs of aging, prejuventation works to prevent signs of aging. Prejuventation could be as simple as wearing sunscreen to protect your skin, getting a facial, or developing a daily skincare routine. It's like doing preventative maintenance on your car.

One of the most common forms of prejevenation, though, is Botox – or other neuromodulators like Xeomin, or Jeuveau (Newtox). These injectables can actually prevent wrinkles from forming in the first place. The most common treatment areas for Botox are:

2) The vertical lines between the brows (frown lines or glabellar lines)

3) Crow’s feet (lines at the corners of the eyes)

Fillers, like Radiesse, Juvederm and Restylane, are popular because they’re non-invasive and provide immediate results, but it’s important to note that fillers don’t prevent aging/wrinkles from occurring.

Prejuvenation is not about stopping aging, but just maintaining a competitive advantage by staying a few steps ahead of Father Time.

Rejuvenation, on the other hand, is more reactionary. This is more restorative in nature, with the purpose of making something appear young or youthful again. One of the more popular rejuvenation procedures is facial rejuvenation, which seeks to tighten skin that lost elasticity over time. Dr Jean-Paul Azzi frequently performs rejuvenation procedures like deep-plane facelifts, eyelid lifts, brow lifts, lip lifts and more.

The signs of aging typically begin when someone hits their mid-twenties. Signs of aging at this points in time are typically very minimal, but it proves it is never too early to start thinking about preserving appearance.
