Which Facial Fillers Go Where?

Facial fillers are becoming increasingly popular because they are quick, easy and less expensive than surgical procedures. There is generally no recovery process or down time and you can go back to work right after!

But one question we always get is “Which fillers go where?” With so many fillers available on the market, we thought we’d break it down for you.

AREA: Nasolabial Folds

Filler: Juvederm, Boletero, Restylane, Radiesse, Vollure, Sculptra, Bellafill

Most often referred to as smiles lines or laugh lines, nasolabial folds are the two skin folds that run from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth. As we age, nasolabial folds often become more pronounced which can create a much older look. Fillers can be injected just under the skin in this area to smooth and soften these lines. Juvederm, Belotero, Restylane and Radiesse can yield results that last up to twelve months. Vollure, Sculptra and Bellafill can last longer than twelve months.

AREA: Cheeks

Filler: Voluma, Restylane Lyft

One of the most popular cosmetic procedures today is the cheek lift. One way to achieve really natural-looking fullness in the cheek area is a quick injection of Voluma or Restylane Lift. The difference a little plumpness can make to the cheeks is unreal.

AREA: Face, Acne Scars

Filler: Juvederm, Bellafill, Radiesse

Living with acne is not fun, and living with the scars of acne is even worse. A little bit of texture on the face can be a constant reminder of a time when you might not have felt your best. In soft-tissue filler therapy, fillers like Juvederm, Bellafill and Radiesse are injected right into acne scars with a super tiny needle to help improve the skins appearance.

AREA: Tear Trough (under eyes)

Filler: Belotero, Restylane

Under eye fillers are a great way to “wake up” the eye area without having blepharoplasty, a surgical procedure to reduce undereye bags, darkness and puffiness. The most popular fillers to plump the hollows under the eyes are Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers like Belotero and Restylane because they are thin and clear. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in your skin but it diminishes as you age. Because it’s naturally in your skin, HA fillers are safe and effective at adding volume and smoothing out the skin’s surface. Over time, your body naturally absorbs the filler but results will last 6-18 months.

AREA: Nose

Filler: Belotero

Many people are unhappy with their nose. Whether it’s the shape, proportion, or projection of their nose, it’s one of the most common things people are self-conscious about. That said, many of these people aren’t quite ready for rhinoplasty surgery (nose job). However, these folks are perfect candidates for a “Liquid Nose Job.” Using dermal fillers, like Belotero, a facial plastic surgeon can contour the shape of the nose and improve the patient’s profile. Many patients call this the “Lunch Break Nose Job” because it only takes 5 -10 minutes.

AREA: Lips

Filler: Juvederm, Belotero, Restylane

Okay, we couldn’t write an article about fillers without mentioning lips. Let’s face it, everybody loves full, sexy, youthful looking lips. Whether you’re looking for a subtle accent to reduce wrinkles along the lip edges or a complete lip transformation, fillers can work miracles on the lip area. Generally, Juvederm products as well as Belotero and some Restylane products are preferred for lip fillers. If you’re looking for a permanent solution to fuller lips, you may want to look into having a Lip Lift. It’s a painless 30-minute procedure to create fuller lips.

One thing we’d like to note is that Botox, Xeomin & Dysport are not facial fillers. They are known as neuromodulators and they work differently than fillers. “Neuromodulators target the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet and other wrinkles by temporarily preventing the movement of facial muscles,” said Dr. Jean-Paul Azzi, a double board certified Palm Beach facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes exclusively in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures of the face, nose and neck. “This reduction in muscle activity subsequently prevents the creation of lines between and around the eyes and on the forehead. If done properly, a brow lift can also be achieved simultaneously.”
